Dereham & Caudebec-Les-Elbeuf Twinning Association
Dereham is twinned with Caudebec-Les-Elbeuf, Normandy, as a result of a Charter signed on 5th June 2004. Caudebec, with a similar size population as Dereham, is situated on the Seine approximately 20kms south of Rouen, Norwich's twin town.
The Dereham Association is run by a small committee independently from Dereham Town Council and, although normally receiving a small grant from the Council each year, is responsible for it's own affairs and funding. Membership is open to the public by a small annual membership fee. The members normally meet monthly either to discuss the activities of the Association, or for a purely social evening, usually with a French flavour.
There is a high degree of activity between the towns, with Dereham visiting Caudebec at least three times a year. At these visits Dereham members usually meet the members of Caudebec's other four European twin towns. Members generally stay at homes of French families and many close friendships have been established in this way. For the past few years Caudebec has sent a party of college students to Dereham forging yet greater contacts, exchanges and friendships.
